I am curious why you chose the word "extremist" to represent the view that genocide is wrong? We can argue over whether or not what is happening in Gaza is genocide (although the world court seems to think it is), but if you believe genocide is happening is standing up to it really extreme?
You are falling in to your own trap of deciding the truth and then basing your judgements on that.
A perhaps more balanced way to ask the question would be:
Why do students in "elite" schools protest more often or take stronger stances for what they believe in?
