I think it is also important to recognize that what appears possible to change is based on the ideological constraints of those asked. As Jameson said, "It is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism." Does that mean capitalism can't change? For many, it does. Others see possibilities beyond it.
I would also add that there are other truth procedures. While science is useful, it often corrects and falsifies its own truths. Since you referenced Aristotle, it is helpful to remember that most of what he thought to be true about the universe has been falsified.
